The main reasons that I love working in product marketing is the variety that comes with this role and the chances I have to constantly learn and grow. In many ways product marketing is the intersection between creativity, strategy and connecting with the customers experience and being able to move between these pillars on a daily basis keeps the job fresh and exciting.
One of the things I love most about product marketing is the opportunity to be creative. Whether it’s crafting a compelling messaging and positioning strategy or developing a unique go-to-market plan, there’s always room to flex the creative side of my brain. This often involves putting myself in the customers shoes and really imagining how they might use or interact with the companies products.
I also greatly enjoy the strategic aspects of product marketing. This usually starts with analyzing market data and using it to inform my decisions and recommendations. It’s rewarding to be able to contribute to a product’s success by identifying key opportunities for growth, developing a plan to capitalize on them, and then watching that plan come to fruition.
Another aspect of product marketing that I enjoy is the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams. As a product marketer, I have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of departments, including sales, engineering, and customer success. I enjoy working with these teams to because it gives me a window into the entire product lifecycle – I get to see the product teams develop new ideas, the engineers build the product, the demand generation teams promote it and the sales team communicate with customer. There are few other roles where you get such a wholistic view of the company and still get to be very hands on in contributing to a products success.
Overall, I love the variety, creativity, strategic thinking, and teamwork that come with working in product marketing. It’s a dynamic and rewarding field that allows me to make a real impact on the success of products and the business.
